Can I release Suno songs made on the free plan?
What Suno says about free-plan songs
"Songs made on the free plan (not subscribed) are only available for non-commercial use and cannot be monetized." [undated page]
Suno's royalty-free page: "Songs made on a free plan are yours to download and share, but not to monetize. Rights are tied to the plan you were on when the song was created, so upgrading later will not apply them retroactively." [undated page]
Does upgrading to Pro or Premier later help?
Not by default. Suno Help: "Subscribing to a Pro or Premier plan does not give you retroactive commercial use licensing for the songs made with a free plan by default... We may offer retroactive rights in certain cases, but this is not guaranteed and applies only to specific songs." [edited Dec 17, 2025]
Songs you make while subscribed keep their commercial rights after you cancel. [edited Dec 17, 2025]
With a paid plan, Suno says you can distribute to streaming services, sell, and use songs in film, TV or games. [undated page]
Download limits after Sept 3, 2026
Suno lists 7 lifetime trial downloads on Free, 20 per month on Pro and 60 per month on Premier, with no limit for Premier users in Suno Studio. [undated page] Under the terms effective Sept 3, 2026, commercial use applies only to permitted downloads within your tier. [effective Sep 3, 2026]
Unclear
- Who qualifies for a retroactive exception and how many songs. Suno's help article only says "in certain cases." Users on Reddit have posted support replies offering a small number of songs, but we could not confirm a current official number, so ask Suno support directly.
- Whether a Remaster or Cover made on a paid plan of a free-plan song counts as a new song. Suno has not published an official rule we could find.
